LUKAS
is an explosive four piece rock / alternative / indie band from
Sydney. Influenced by pop culture from the 80’s to the present;
with artists like Coldplay, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Travis, John
Mayer, U2, The Strokes, The Killers, Hot Hot Heat, Ben Folds Five,
Silverchair & Crowded House flowing through their veins.
The
band was pioneered by Luke Munns, who previously played drums on
countless albums and tours spanning the globe. Luke and his band
“Able” won Channel [V]’s Legup competition out
of 2500 unsigned bands across Australia and New Zealand and gained
invaluable recording experience throughout this time.
After
locking himself away for many months Luke recorded home demos of
his songs to find an overwhelming response of over 100,000 downloads
through both MySpace and the website, primarily spread through word
of mouth.
No
stranger to the stage, Luke made his acoustic show public, doing
shows all around NSW in venues provided by The Harbour Agency then
landed a support slot for a sold out tour with seven times platinum
singer / songwriter Brooke Fraser.
In
early ’06 Luke formed a collaboration of the best in musicianship
and recording locations within his circles to create what producer
Brendan Anthony (INXS, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Wheatus,
George) has called one of the best records he has produced in his
17 year career. Recorded within a budget of $30,000 the new EP “Lukas
– You & Me” is a collective of experienced talent
whom together have crafted a unique sound with strong, soaring melodies
and catchy hooks that capture your attention.
The
future for Lukas is bright as a selection of like minded, dynamic
musicians have been solidified into a band, including longtime friend
Sam O’Donnell, wielding killer feel and unbridled passion
on the drums, Troy Munns, gifted with mature skill and creativity,
smooth parts and rich tone on bass and Chris Whitehall, bringing
precision backing vocals and “wall of sound” guitars
to the mix.
Lukas
have spent the last year at strategic locations along the coast
of NSW rehearsing and creating and are already making a big mark
on the music scene with industry interest after packed out performances
at the The Brass Monkey, Mona Vale Hotel, The Spectrum, The Annandale
and The Hopetoun. Rumour has it their huge sound, good looks and
hard work ethic will see them rise to success.
